There is an extremely important point being missed in this discussion -

If, like Ernie, one finds that one's current digital camera does what one
wants/needs it to do, no one and nothing is compelling one to constantly -
or essentially ever, upgrade. The only people who at this point are being
forced to constantly upgrade are pros who must dance to the tune played by
clients.
