The only people who at this point are being forced to constantly upgrade are pros who must dance to the tune played by clients. (I have a good friend who is a very successful freelance writer and author - cranking out a new book...for very good money...about every 18 months. It is only in the past year that he finally dumped his 386 computer and Xywrite and "moved up" to a Pentium 4 and Microsoft Office. He could do what he needed to do with what all the manufacturers and marketing types would tell him was obsolete technology. So it is with digital.) B.
