It sounds like you could request Leica to replace it under the Lemon Laws,
(I assume you live in the US).

I dunno, Ted. I love my R8. Best camera I've ever used... when it's
working. But it spent 5 1/2 months of it's first 12 in service! And now
that it's 15 months old, it's about to go in again!
Glad I had that 5 Year warranty! (And glad I have an SL for reliable
backup!)
