No, not at all like cell phones.  Cell phones are an entirely different
matter.  A cell phone is a single, discreet appliance that someone can learn
to use very quickly.  It does not require peripherals, and in many cases, is
the least expensive way to have a phone - cheaper than land lines in many
cases.  It also has a long life cycle.  It is entirely reasonable to expect
to wear out a cell phone before it becomes obsolete to the point of
impracticality.
