Subject: RE: [Leica] Digital back for Leica R8/R9

After using digital for a while and using almost everything that has been
out, (s2,nd,1d,1ds,d30,60,10,d1x,14n&kodak pro back). Here are some of my
observation

1) I shoot film more!
2) the software is MORE important than camera system (same thing I recommend
to our customers, choose the software and then the hardware). The best
software I have used so far is the phase one capture one and from now on
only buy/use systems that this software supports. They got it right!!

Here is my ranking

1) 1ds - attach a leica lens and u have digital leica!!!
2) 10d, d1x,1d
3) kodak pro back - software needs work
4) fuji s2 - bad software , no third party support
5) kodak 14n -- too early as it is a shipping prototype so far
6) contax ND - sad but last place

** is this the following possible? - you can buy an adapter FOR R->EOS but
only works in stop down, can they make a conversion chip to convert EOS
commands to ROM? And built it into an adapter? Would then leica give the
R8/9 camera system and supply lenses for canon?

Leica being a small company, will most likely contract out the software, so
I hope is capture one and not some dinky homegrown software done by contax
for the ND.

Also the R8/9 are fairly large, attaching a digital back make it
larger/heavier, does leica provide arm assistants or is this a tripod only
camera

Interesting to see how it fares against the Canon 1DS or 10D (that 10D is
getting superb reviews in just about every article written, and I believe
you can use Leica glass on a Canon body?). Also interesting to see if Leica
lenses designed for less than full frame digital sensors are developed. I
presume a full frame sensor was not possible, although it would have made
the most of the curent 35mm lens line-up.
