In the mid-seventies, a Leica M body cost one month's salary for me (ok, I was just a college kid hanging around a camera shop with a lousy salary). That "one month" salary was calculated on the generous rebate E. Leitz New Jersy gave us. Had we paid retail, it would have been two months. If I were to buy an M7 today, it would cost less than one month's salary.
