The Noctilux does work pretty well as a loupe but only if used 
"backwards". The deeply recessed front element means you cannot get it 
to focus with the front of the lens facing the slide. I am pretty sure 
that if you filed off the filter threads everything would be perfect 
but I haven't got around to doing that...yet :-)
