The image was much different than this one, granted. But with the diffusion I could let the dark tones creep into the light ones and smooth out the skin. The resulting softness seemed appropriate for her delicate features (although the scan adds a bit more "fuzz" than the print has. It also adds a dream-like quality, making it a less literal portrait. I suppose I'm experimenting with new (to me) techniques.
