April 30th is a public holiday in the Netherlands, the Queen's Birthday (although it is not actually the current queen's birthday, but her mother's). It is a good excuse for a big street party, and the festivities start the night before, known as Queen's Night. People, including shop owners and fast food employees, stake out their territories early: http://www.wajsman.com/2003_18.jpg http://www.wajsman.com/2003_18alt1.jpg (both with Leica CL, 40mm Rokkor, Ilford Delta 400) Then we move on to London for week 19. The main picture is significant for me because it was one of those rare occasions when I overcame my shyness and asked the father of this beautiful little girl if I could take a picture (location is Picadilly Circus): http://www.wajsman.com/2003_19.jpg (Leica CL, 40mm Rokkor, Fuji Provia 400F) Another shot from Picadilly, a couple of tourists trying to figure out where they are: http://www.wajsman.com/2003_19alt1.jpg (Leica CL, 40mm Rokkor, Fuji Provia 400F) On the way home, I spotted this bagpipe player at Luton Airport. I have no idea why he was performing there, he was not busking. Maybe he just had some time to kill between flights: http://www.wajsman.com/2003_19alt2.jpg (Leica CL, 90mm Rokkor, Fuji Provia 400F) And finally: these days, everyone has a mobile phone, so that pay phones are not used much. But in London the phone booths serve as useful advertising venues for certain services: http://www.wajsman.com/2003_19alt3.jpg (Leica CL, 40mm Rokkor, Fuji Provia 400F) The complete PAW index is at: http://www.wajsman.com/indexpaw2003.htm and comments/critique are always welcome and appreciated.
