That is more or less correct.  DOF is basically acceptable sharpness.  Your
are limited in the ability to produce/see "detail" by many factors, lense,
film/digital sensor, developing, printing method/medium/media and certainly
the viewing resolution of the eye.  The "standard" COC was chosen with the
viewing resolution of the eye in mind, such that you view a print at a
distance equal to the dimension of the diagonal of the print.  This is why
the COCs increase with format, as you have to enlarge less to achieve the
same size output.
