Kit... electronics parts.. specifically the chips... are made on a process
line.  When the manufacturer closes the line, it is like trying to make a
1949 car in 2003.... impossible because all the process steps are wrong.
While this is a worst case scenario, the best you could do right now is to
purchase the chips while they are available.... the alternative is the PC
board with chips on it.....

Regardless of 20 years of production, the chip business is such that
typically within about 5 years, the chips just can not be built any more.
Leica probably buys sufficient spares for several years...  but remember
that a gear can be made any time in the future... a chip can not.
Close/alternative Replacements are impossible.

I will mention the final alternative... scavenge parts form another body.
This is done even for the LTM cameras....
