I'll add my strongly favorable opinion of the Leica Vario 80-200mm.... My
one major gripe about it is that the hood does not lock into place...
although future versions will... (yes, it was my suggestion to Leica on
the first official Leica Chat, that led to the locking hood on the new 90mm
: ) ) My solution is a rubberband around the barrel...

I bought this lens as a replacement to Canon FD 80-200 f/4 L for travel
photos....

Like just about any zoom lens, you need to watch for flare when shooting
into the sun etc. I think it flares less than the Canon did... but I never
shot them side by side... And it is a two touch zoom... I wish it did have
a closer minimum focus distance... but is about the same as what the Canon
was.... However the magnification is fairly decent and you can use it to
shoot details of objects, flowers, Butterflies etc...

But, it is a great outdoor travel lens.....
