If you don't know what the reserve is you may be tempted to bid just that little bit more in order to find out, spending more than you might have had you known what the minimum price was to start with. This is irrational but then so are lots of eBay buyers. I sold a three month old Fuji S2 for more than I paid for it new. I've also seen Rollei compact cameras fetch a third more used than several dealers were charging for them new.
