Subject: [Leica] impressed by old canon 100m 3.5

Recently I picked up a canon 100mm 3.5 leica screw mount lens at auction.
It was tucked deep inside a box, as describe by the auctioneer, of 'optical
stuff'.
It was mixed in with old military sextants.
I bought the whole box - fitted the canon lens on to my M7 and shot a test
roll.

wow! nifty lens - seems very sharp.
anyone know when (approx) these canon lenses were in production?
How do they hold up against leitz glass?
Test shots seemed very nice to my eye.
