I agree that reproductions in book form aren't very impressive. You need to
see full sized originals properly displayed in order to really get an
appreciation for Adam's works. 

I saw an original print of "Moonrise" at the AA Gallery in Curry Village in
Yosemite when I was a kid. It was impressive beyond description. It had a
huge impact on my appreciation of photography. Moreso than anything since.  

I was fortunate to work a block away from the Doloros Gallery (later Friends
of Photography) in Carmel back in the 70's. Spent many a lunchtime at the
gallery. I had the chance to see many original prints from many great
photographers, and even meet and talk to some masters. I see reproductions
in books today and they don't do justice to the originals.  

Sometimes I think photographic printing is a vanishing art form.
