The future isn't looking too bright then. ; )

And also:
Anybody can do what Alfie has done, produce something at very low initial
cost and advertise it to thousands of people also at very low initial cost
regardless of the merits or otherwise of the stuff they produce,

and:
When the main criteria of success seems to be exposure rather than skill and talent

Neil's points are all well made, and Per's response to them "The only "problem" is that there is a lot of "noise" emerging, in the form of in-general-not-very-interesting-junk, and we will have to figure out
how to find the good stuff." is also very true.

I have had discussions with Ted Grant, and his frustrations in getting an antholgy of his life work (to date) published. There is no source of funding to get the project of the ground. Maybe Ted has to take a marketing lesson from Alfie. (God knows he doesn't need a photography lesson from him)

The photography club I attend is celebrating their 50th anniversary next year, and decided to publish a retrospective of some very top notch photography from past and present members. Unfortunately, there is no interest in providing seed money from any of the usual sources to get this off the ground.

It seems ironic to me that anything not likely to sell is supported by the arts community, anything that may actually turn a profit is doomed to not getting off the ground, as the funds to get it started are not there for "too commercial" projects.

Ted maybe you can describe the trials and tribulations you have experienced with the "Real Men Shoot B&W..." project.
