Hi Dave,

It's FAR more than simply a digital back. It's a whole new camera body.
The Rx body is designed for film. It has two film chambers, a film winding
mechanism, and a film gate that is designed for film. It would be far
better for Leica (or any manufacturer) to basically start from scratch. A
digital camera is far more than the CCD/CMOS sensor. It is the electronics,
batteries, and digital image storage, as well as the camera control
interfaces to these electronics that take up most of the room.

The other answer is, most people today want autofocus, and the Leica lenses
aren't autofocus.

Regards,

Austin
