Jeffery, Welcome

The questions you ask can only be answered by you.

I can tell you that when I first heard of the PAW concept, it made
sense for me in that I had these nice cameras that were being used
largely for snapshooting; it was hard to justify even keeping them for
what little use I was getting from them, So I plunged into a Picture a
week project.

Here's what I do: I take a camera with me nearly everywhere I go. At
first, people will ask about it; you wife, your friends, people at
church. Then an amazing thing happens. You are shooting and you
become invisible to them. Really. They lose their self-conscious
attitudes, because they are so accustomed to seeing you with a camera,
and you are so comfortable with it, you are invisible!

There are no rules to a PAW. You do it for yourself. Some people will
critique your stuff, and many of those will be valid; sometimes their
opinions stink worse than your pictures. Soon, however, an AMAZING
thing happens! You become a better photographer. You shoot week
after week, you post week after week. You get to know your camera like
it is a part of you, and suddenly, you are doing some good work, and
guess what? You have a track record that you can go back and look at!

I must warn you, it is hard. Lots of people drop out. There are some
who've been at it for years, and they don't even post to the list
anymore, but you can go to the several lists of PAW and look through
them and see some fine documentation of people's lives.

If you are serious, and get a few shots posted, ask me and I will put
your name on my PAW list.

Jeffery Smith maintains a directory too at:

And Jason Vicinanza at:

There may be more.

Kyle Cassidy, the acknowledged founder of the PAW movement offers a
template and advice here:

http://www.asc.upenn.edu/usr/cassidy/leicaslacker/paw/

He says:

Rules:
There aren't really any rules but I will offer up some guidelines.
1 photo a week posted on Mondays (or thereabouts) gives you the
weekend to print and scan.

Each photo taken during the previous week (it's pointless to showcase
your old photos in this format).

Post to the Lists when your page is updated. Hopefully this will shame
the rest of them into taking photos instead of bickering about a)
Billington bags, b) rangefinder flare, c) lens hoods d) "is there
really a mint +", e) "could salago beat capra in a fair fight?" f)
vintage straps, etc.

Okay now. Get going.

That's it from here. Good Luck, and I hope you do the PAW, it has
been a great experience for me.
