You DO need to speak the Northwestern's resident botanist. The water is taken into the roots by osmosis, and then carried up the rest of the way through transpiration. Other than that, you've got a nice photojournalist's series of the disaster of '02. Have you taken a good look at a recent satellite picture of the gulf? In another week, that tree's gonna have more water to suck....now you've got ME saying it.
