BD is right. I will not utter a further word on this.

Conflicts ...

I finished journalism school in the mid-seventies. Couldn't get much of a
job ... freelancing for the Alton Telegraph, taking pictures of "high
society" ladies cutting cakes and things like that.

Decided to head out into the big world and make a go at it.

This was the time Life went under ... David Burnett had just landed a job
there and then got the rug pulled out from under him. A lot better people
than I were looking for jobs.

Walked into a South African news agents office in London and suggested the
Rhodesian situation. Gave them a pitch ... they bought it, were going to
send me there. I smelled a rat. Like I said, a lot better people than I
were looking for work and they were going to give it to me after one
meeting. Backed out. Didn't want to go in on the wrong side of the
conflict.

Since then ... I've spent about 10% or more of the last ten years in
Zimbabwe (hope that keyword didn't spark our latest Nigerian letters). I'm
going back next week. Can easily fit into the right side ... tempting,
tempting.

Daniel

PS: Once again, thanks BD. I'm out of it.
