Subject: [Leica] HELP - Funny Scratches

I just got a roll of slides (E6) back from our local lab and there are funny
scratches on the slides. They are not straight, and they do not run the
length of any one slide. I placed a rather large (330KB) file which is a
section of one of the slides that, because of the soft, even background,
shows the scratches well. It is a reduced JPEG, but the scratches show up
fairly nicely when viewed at 100%. Can anyone give me a good explanation
for these? I have had many rolls developed there, and never had this
problem. The last three rolls I picked up a week ago were just fine.

The film is Velvia, and I bulk load it. I have been bulk loading film for
over 30 years and if I ever do get scratches, they are straight and long,
not this short and non-parallel scratches.
The camera is an R8, and I know there have been some threads about scratches
with the R8. I have had it for 7 months and never had a scratch. And,
again, I would assume it would put a straight scratch which would cover many
frames, not the scratches I have here.

I am not familiar with the E6 developing process, but I would assume it also
would put straight scratches on the film. Maybe in the mounting????

I will take the film back on Monday for them to look at, but maybe someone
out there has some insights.

Aram
