As to the poster who inquired about the number of women in the pro
ranks:
I was asked to teach a class at a college that offers a 4 year degree in

photography. I would say that about 70 percent of the graduates are
aiming 
for a pro career.
Then I attended this school 20 years ago; out of 100 in the class only
ten 
or so were women.
For the last two semesters (2001, 2002) I was surprised (and delighted)
to 
find the women make up about 70% of the photography student body.
The department chairman notes this number has been steadily growing for 
the last 5 years or so.
