The LEICA DUOVID 8+12x42 - the first binoculars in the world to feature switchable magnification from 8x to 12x - received the "Editors Choice Award for Binoculars“ of Outside and Outdoor Life. The two rangefinders LEICA LRF 1200 RANGEMASTER and LEICA LRF 800 RANGEMASTER both won prizes as well. The “2002 Academy of Excellence Award, High-Tech Product of the Year“ conferred by the Shooting Industry magazine went to the LEICA LRF 1200 RANGEMASTER this year. The LEICA LRF 800 RANGEMASTER was distinguished with the Field & Stream Magazine's “Best of the Best“ award. Leica Camera AG was also honored for its outstanding performance as an optics manufacturer, winning the Sporting Classics magazine's “2002 Optics Manufacturer of the Year“ award for its contribution to product innovations for hunting, fishing and other outdoor pursuits. This product is in its technical features identical with the already available black version. Precision measurements are ensured up to a range of 1200 yards or 1097 meters max.. Even in unfavorable viewing conditions such as rain, bright sunshine or hazy weather, the new product with 7x finder magnification takes spot-on measurements. Besides the realization of his book project on the subject of Afghanistan, he has won an engraved LEICA M7 rangefinder system camera. To be eligible for entry for the 12,000 Euro photography award, the photo projects in the form of a book had to be complete but still unpublished.
