I'm a lazy printer, and Leica negs lay down like nobody's business. I get in and out of the darkroom in record time. I printed for an exhibit recently for a total of 7 hours, 3 the first day and 4 the following day. A total of 30 finished fiber prints. As it is, I need to catch up with printing my vintage material on the materials of the period, i.e. silver gelatin fiber prints. The reason for that is that the fiber print has its own unique signature. The silver gelatin print also places the work historically to its respective period of usage. I reserve the digital for commercial applications for the most part, while maintaining the traditional materials for my personal work. It's all about market share. I suspect that once the initial infatuation with the machine print has died down, that the hand made print will go through the roof in value. Particularly has very little traditional printing is being taught anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if a lens didn't already exists that works within the very short range of the current scanner designs. But, I know very little of Leica current industrial output, other than what I see sold off as surplus. Which is why I suspect that there is something out there already.
