Graham,
This one http://www.geebeephoto.com/html/sywell_04.html is much more
appealing as are the horizontals.  Suggestions to try in similar situations
would be a somewhat longer lens tilted down to provide more foreground
blue(you will be moving the horizon line north of the rule of thirds).
Also, in similar situations try to time your shots for earlier in the
morning or later at night to capture the warmer, softer light.  If color
does not make the image, form and texture are what the shot is about) then
switching to B&W will extend the shooting day.

The second postings are good landscapes, I'm just suggesting experiments to
try while waiting for strangers in your other project.  The trick to finding
your style is to experiment a lot, repeat what mostly works with variations
to refine, and discard those techniques that just don't appeal.  Last, if
you like something, stick with it.  It's your artistic expression.
