If I am shooting, I always REQUIRE that I have priority, and it's not negotiable, though it's never been questioned luckily. I always try to talk to the other photographer/videographer also, and in a nice way broach that subject and make sure it's understood. I've done probably a few hundred weddings, and never had a problem in that regard, it's a good thing to learn to play nice with them, as they can certainly do you many favors. The only problem I've had has been when I was NOT the hired photographer, I once thought (after the fact) that I got in the pro's way getting some particular shots, and did apologize to him...but he said he hadn't noticed...I think he was being nice.
