This is an example of why I prefer the incident meter that I use for my
M2/M3 shooting. If I had used the M6ttl the spot meter would have read that
bright light between the two people and stopped the lens down probably 2 or
3 stops giving me no picture at all.

No, I was not thinking that far ahead. I just take an overall read and let
the meter decide.

That is what I did, I saw the shot, had a 28/2.0 and knew that I would have
a composition that established the scene and showed the couple in enough
detail to make them interesting. As far as the space on the right, it looks
right to me, showing the window and the street beyond.
