I often wonder what UV filters are supposed to protect the lens from...
certainly not from shards of broken filter glass... filters aren't made of
tempered glass, ya know.  Dust and fingerprints can be cleaned off, and for
the last 35 years or so Leica lenses have had hard coatings.  My lenses have
been naked for over 20 years.  In salt water spray or sandstorms, I can
understand the glass needing protection, but otherwise ditch the UV filter!
