If you end up not taking the head off, lower the head to the absolute lowest position. What I did one time was take some foam and let the head compress it as it bottomed out. That way, no wobble when traveling, and the heavy part is down low. No matter how you do it, when you set it back up, make sure you re-align the entire enlarger.
