I haven't seen the photograph in recent years but you may be referring to
the veritable Bell & Howell "Eyemo" 35mm motion picture camera that was
standard issue for military cinematographers. AFAIK 16mm movie cameras were
not widely used by the military at that time. In Germany in 1953 I
introduced our movie section's CO to the Arriflex, then the leading 16mm
camera.
