Another thing I have learned is that once an animal is old enough to eat from a dish, you let it take a bite or two, then pick it up, look it in the eyes, pet it, talk to it, and put it back down for another bite or two. Then repeat the process until it is not hungry any longer. Keep this up for a week or two and you have an animal that is completely unflapable and kidproof. One example I can offer is a large male Siamese cat that a small child could treat like a toy, but who took on and whipped a Labrador Retriever.
