Dan -

I've never used anything but the 3000's.  I have two of them and they have 
both worked perfectly since I got them.  You do need to use the Piezography 
software with the 3000's because it changes the rather large dot pattern of 
the 3000 to a dotless pattern.  The large ink cartridges make it possible 
to use the quad-black inks, either Piezo or MIS, without the Continuous Ink 
System.  Jon Cone says on his site that the 3000 is the perfect printer for 
Piezography.
