I bought the Microtek Scanmaker 4800 to scan 35 mm negs and it was
horrible. The quality was unacceptable, using the slide/neg attachment
was difficult and laborious. 

Just not a good system. Go for either of the epsons (1650 or 2450) and
save yourself grief and time.
