As for scanners, take a hard look at the new Epson 2450. It is more expensive than the Microtec you mention (around $400 in the US I think) but will give you far superior results. It is probably the first flatbed scanner to provide acceptable results with 35mm film (although I do not use it for 35mm, since I have the Nikon LS-2000 for that; the Epson is for medium format).
