depends what you mean by 'better'. If you want shadow detail AND
highlights, neg may be much better.

I very much doubt it. The Dmax of a color print film is not that high. It
is more likely to be a non-linearity in the negative color response or
possibly some curiosity in the profile applied by the scanner.
