Every year in Sydney, where I lived for 14 years, rock fishermen are lost because of this. It's said that about every 7th oceanic wave is a big 'un. Among those particularly at risk are immigrants from Mediterranean countries, who aren't used to the vigorous waves of the Pacific Ocean.
