I take issue with the point of view here. There is the notion of market
segments. People who buy photographs costing $6,000 (like the Eisenstadt
photographs on display at the Leica gallery in NYC) are not likely customers
for photographs that cost $20-40. While a Gen-Yer is not a likely customer
for a $6,000 photograph they are more likely to be a purchaser of a $20
photograph of a Goth beauty.

Those that photograph for a living are not looking to sell their photos for
$20 and thus are addressing a market of people willing to buy photographs at
the price level they set. Whether or not they are willing to buy a
particular photographer's photographs is a matter of the purchaser's taste
and perception of the quality of the photographer's images.

Kyle is establishing himself as a photographer selling his art. In the
general marketplace there has not yet developed a perception of his art as
being good (a different matter than the perception expressed on LUG that he
does good photography), therefore he is not likely to have his photographs
sell for $6,000. So, as one starting out, he's pricing himself (not that
I'm aware of his thought process) at what he thinks he can sell his images
for.

Just my thoughts, let's see where this goes.
