I forget who said it, but one artist quippped that most of his colleagues should be working with shovels not brushes. Not every artist deserves pay. An artist who can't make it from his or her art had better look to the local Shop Rite to make money, and let art be a well loved hobby. Someone will ask, "Should van Gogh not have made a living from his art?" I answer, "Van Gogh, yes, most artists, no."
