Shelly Mydans, wife of Carl Mydans, the noted Rolleiflex and Nikon
photographer, and herself an accomplished photographer and author, died
this week in New Rochelle. Details are available from the New York Times
on-line edition.

Carl and Shelly Mydans, then newly-weds, were present in Manila when the
Japanese captured the town and spent two years in captivity before being
exchanged. Carl Mydans went on to a distinguished career as Douglas
MacArthur's favorite photographer and as the first senior photographer to
adopt Nikon gear as the standard.
