Julian:

I haven't tried it but I find focusing a lot easier with the split image
circle on the R8 than with the microprism that I used to have on my
Spotmatics... which I had switched to split image circles several years
ago.  It may depend on how old your eyes are.

P.S. I do find that I like working with the 90mm summicron on the SL
more than on the R8.
