Pascal, the magic words are..... Authorized dealer...... If you buy grey
market ( prodcut was not imported by Leica USA ) then the issues become
fuzzy...

Say you buy a camera from ABC Photo in NYC, and ABC Photo says the camera
has an international Warranty, you believe them. When you send the camera
to Leica USA for repair, they might say the camera was sold originally by
Leica to XYZ Camera in Hong Kong. Since you did not buy the camera from an
AUthorized Dealer, you have no warranty that Leica USA will recognize.

This problem is a very big problem in the US. It would go away completely
if Leica Germany wanted it to go away.
First, world wide pricing. Everywhere in the world, Leica would sell
cameras to the dealers at the same price. This cuts right to the problem of
grey market goods.
Second, a world wide clearinghouse for warranty repair fees. If your camera
comes in for repairs, any repair agency is bound by Leica to repair the
damage, and the repair bill goes to the original selling Leica Camera
store/distributor/agent.. The whole process becomes transparent to the
consumer.

Complain to Leica Germany, Complain to Leica USA. They have the power to
fix the problem.

If Leica is selling a product with an international warranty statement
included (whatever the length of the period), I expect them to honor it in
accordance with the conditions contained in the statement.

"for this product the Leica Camera AG provides an extended warranty of two
years. The period commences on the date of purchase from an authorized
dealer
