If you buy grey market ( prodcut was not imported by Leica USA ) then the issues become fuzzy... Say you buy a camera from ABC Photo in NYC, and ABC Photo says the camera has an international Warranty, you believe them. When you send the camera to Leica USA for repair, they might say the camera was sold originally by Leica to XYZ Camera in Hong Kong. Since you did not buy the camera from an AUthorized Dealer, you have no warranty that Leica USA will recognize. This problem is a very big problem in the US. It would go away completely if Leica Germany wanted it to go away. First, world wide pricing. Everywhere in the world, Leica would sell cameras to the dealers at the same price. This cuts right to the problem of grey market goods. Second, a world wide clearinghouse for warranty repair fees. If your camera comes in for repairs, any repair agency is bound by Leica to repair the damage, and the repair bill goes to the original selling Leica Camera store/distributor/agent.. The whole process becomes transparent to the consumer. Complain to Leica Germany, Complain to Leica USA. They have the power to fix the problem.
