I may not be known for my tact and diplomacy, Photo Phreak, but at least
when I post I use my real name. ;-)

B. D. Colen

I too am new to the list. I am busy tonight working my
way through almost 900 postings. I am sure I will not get
tmore than half way. So I will peobably not see the
definitve answer to all this tonight, if ever.

I would like to add a few things:

1. No man ever increased his stature by trying to diminish
    that of another.

2. It is better to light even one candle than to curse
    the darkness.

3. The US does not really have any competitive photography
magazines any longer. Those of you who never saw the
Modern Photography vs Popular Photography vs Camera 35
et al rivalry of so many years ago may not appreciate
the dearth of real, useful information in the
publications of today. I do not know if Darkroom
Photography still exists. If it is gone, we have lost
    a treasure.

What all this is leading to is this: We should
appreciate any source of real information we have. Most of
us are intelligent enough to see through puffery and fluff.
Marketing hype will always be with us. That is life. So
rather than wasting time and effort cutting someone down,
make a positive effort to bring forth new information that
we may use to add to our knowlege and abilities.

Irwin, thank you for your efforts. If they seem
flawed to some, let them offer something better. If they
can.
B.D., your accomplishments are impressive. Your tact
and diplomacy are not. I hope I will be among many who
will encourage you to bring forth new information about the
tools we need, or pehaps just want, to pursue our creative
interests. Or perhaps more importnatly, you can help us
learn the skills and techniques to use those tools to the
best advantage.

Pax Vobiscum
