I'll second the Gossen Luna-Pro Digital. It uses cheap batteries, and
they last forever.

My recommendation for a basic ambient light meter: Gossen Luna-Pro
Digital. A great all around meter and the best I've ever owned. Small
and easy to use. There is also a similar model for ambient/flash
metering.
