Granted, we are looking at these images on our monitors, but the fine detail is really pretty amazing. Obviously there are those on this list who will pooh-pooh anything digital, and those who will continue to tell us that digital development has hit a brick wall and it will be a decade before digital equals film. BUT...for the rest of us in the real world this does indeed give one pause in terms of making any further investment in film-based equipment at this time. B. D. >> LOL! Oh my god, BD, because of some press-release on a digital photography site you think that those in the "real world" are going to hold off on buying film or lenses or other photographic equipment? Me thinks you've been seduced by the sirens of Madison Ave. Look, I don't care if the foveon chip massages my feet in addition to producing clear pictures of a cat, the digital tech for me hasn't reached a point where I wouldn't be imagining having to replace my digital equipment every couple of years. AND having just spent the great part of a week helping my folks (who I also consider part of the real world) archive literally over a hundred years of prints, negatives, I still have a pretty hard time grasping how they would keep up or more importantly be willing to keep up with having their digital storage converted to the latest (and greatest hyped) storage standard every couple of years. For really rich folks who have all the money in the world (and I live in an area filled with them) and for professional photographers who can write this stuff off, or have someone else pay for it, then saying digital is now the only way to go might make sense. But for me, I'll stick with a tech that offers me a chance to have equipment I may keep for the rest of my lifetime. - -kim ps...any of you bailing on film that own enlarging lenses you wish to sell for your addiction to digital let me know! - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
