Lest you envy all my travels, let me tell you that the weather was awful and because I was on a budget it meant flying Easyjet and staying in a Holiday Inn Express in Canning Town, not exactly the glamourous part of London. Also, because of the extremely strict carry-on restrictions imposed by Easyjet, the Domke bag with my Leicas stayed at home, and my camera was a Rollei 35 in my pocket. So, here are the results. The one place it did not rain was inside the Covent Garden market. I like this shot because I did not sneak it--the lady was well aware that I was taking pictures and apparently had no objection to it: http://www.wajsman.com/2002_6.jpg Venturing outside meant weather like this, here captured on Picadilly Circus: http://www.wajsman.com/2002_6alt1.jpg The neighbourhood around my hotel was quite run down, and on Tuesday morning, when I had some time to kill, I went for a walk and photographed some of the signs and graffiti. I was particularly attracted to disconnects between signs or billboards and their physical surroundings, as in these two shots: http://www.wajsman.com/2002_6alt2.jpg http://www.wajsman.com/2002_6alt3.jpg and finally a place where the graffiti sign fits the place: http://www.wajsman.com/2002_6alt4.jpg All five pictures with the Rollei 35 on Delta 3200 developed in XTOL 1+1. Before you all feel sorry for me, let me add that the trip was a good one nonetheless, with productive meetings, a great Martin Parr exhibit, and a most pleasant dinner with LUGger Steve Patriquen and his wife Fran. As far as I am concerned, there is no such thing as a bad trip to London.
