But I the personality/skills involved in that kind of interviewing and sticking a camera in the faces of strangers are quite different. Keep in mind that not only are the guests on Fresh Air happy to be there, they would KILL to be there - they have a "product" to sell, and Terry is helping them sell it. They WANT to be talking to her. OTH, when you are out wandering the street, the folks you shoot don't know you, don't know what you're doing, are leading their private lives into which you inject yourself without invitation. It's a VERY different situation. It may require some of the same curiosty/chutspa on the part of a Terry Gross and a photographer. But the skills are different. And I know that from experience, having spent 23 years regularly interviewing people in all sort of situations, and having no qualms about doing it - but at the same time finding that I am NOT an intrepid street shooter at all.. She has the ability of not being 'wowed' by a response and just keeps asking questions. A good lesson...for me anyway.
