Yes, using f16 will only focus the suns intensity. The problem only 
occurs if the camera is left "static" in the direction of the sun. On 
mine, there was a small snail trail, which demonstrated the movement 
of the sun in relation to the camers which was lying "sans" lenscap 
on the living room table.
