Back in the bad ol' days (mid-70s) when I was young (er), we were operating with
a few other NATO submarines in the Med and pulled into La Spezia for a weekend.
Gorgeous city, by the way, in late October. Anyway, down the pier was this
German diesel boat and we did a bit of ship-visiting. We were having PB&J's and
the German crew visiting us went NUTS. I remember trading a couple of
industrial-sized tubs of peanut butter - although for the life of me I can't
remember what we got in return. No Leicas, that's for sure.

They sure did like that peanut butter!
