Henry,

The difference is in the flash unit.  Newer metz models must have the 3002 series modules.  Older  3000 units can use the 3000 and the 3002 modules.

The 70MZ-5, 70MZ-4, 54MZ-3 need the 3002 modules to work correctly.  If you have no real reason to buy the 3000 module you are generally better off buying the 3002 unit.  Has 1 great advantage over the 3000 unit in that there is now a cover for the exposure compensating switche(s).
