My understanding is that "grain aliasing" is a function of the
resolution of the CCD, *not* a function of the resolution you choose
in the software.  As it's been explained to me, simply changing the
resolution in the software just effects how much of the data from the
CCD is actually used and won't change the apparent increase in grain
from grain aliasing.

Shel Belinkoff and I were talking about this this afternoon and
decided to do some experiments using different scanners, different
software resolutions, etc....  If when we actually *do* it, we'll
report it here.
